I've been extremely pleased with the quality and condition of my produce. Question: I've recently had the same issues with Misfits market and I am beyond the point of frustration with them. The second box arrived smashed as well but everything in it seemed okay. I live in Philadelphia, my distribution center is about 25 minutes from house in Pennsauken, NJ. What a haul! With the Misfits Market Mischief option, you can’t always choose what is packed in your box; what you do know is that you will receive some sort of leafy greens, and various seasonal fruits and veggies. Misfits Market is a weekly or bi-weekly ugly produce subscription box. The vast majority of it was grown in Mexico, which was shocking to me, since the website said the produce was grown on regional farms and supports local farmers to reduce food waste in America. This produce is said to be “ugly” produce that isn’t perfect for the supermarket. So sorry to hear you had these issues. Then the remaining 10 lbs is just about to rot. Would be about $45 per month for fruit and veg. Answer: I do know that squash aren’t root vegetables, and I don’t think it’s misleading if you read the article. At this point, Imperfect Foods and Hungry Harvest offer full box customizability, and Misfits Market has just started to offer the ability to hand-pick the contents of your box. I decided to just dive in: I peeled and sliced them, roasting them with huckleberry gold potato wedges, onions, olive oil, and some seasonings. My total weight was 10.09 (just made it there) and taking the prices from Walmart organic where I could and non if I couldn't and pricing out what I got and what it would have cost if I shopped Walmart $19.33 vs $22.00 +5.50 shipping, meaning I received no savings _ I paid more and the majority is from Mexico. Using those photos as examples of root vegetables grown in Mexico is a bit misleading, don't you think? When I signed up for Misfits Market, I fully expected to receive a box of the ugliest produce I’ve ever seen — and, honestly, that’s just not the case. Wish me luck :). Answer: Because they’re still taking your money, and making it so difficult to get it back that maybe people are giving up instead of fighting it. Among the surprises in my last box were two rutabagas, a root veggie that I’ve never been brave enough to purchase or eat before. The slicing couldn't have happened when I opened the box, since they were way at the bottom under layers of brown paper packaging, and they were so dried out I couldn't even use them to cook with. If you haven't tried Misfits Market, I'd strongly suggest that you don't. I would always throw it out, but that seemed like it wasn’t the most ecologically sound option either. Closing your account won’t stop them from contacting you all the time anyway. I'm glad that you cut your losses quickly though. Leah (author) from New York on July 11, 2020: Lindsay - it was definitely disappointing to realize that not only was I not receiving usable produce, but also wasn’t supporting local growers. Question: My boxes have been full of rotten produce with ice packs warm. It sounded great! you got a new subscriber too. Every single one (some were received just three days earlier) was sprouting alarmingly, and many were so mushy they seemed to be dissolving. In the photo above, you see the contents of the box on the day I received it. If you'd like to support local, organically grown farms, I'd suggest that you find a farmers market in your area, or a CSA to support real local people. Here’s what it would cost for us to buy the same things at conventional produce prices at the grocery store, as close as I can guess. Waiting a month and getting charged for 2 boxes before getting anything sent is ridiculous. The water-logged, battered MM box had actually been placed inside a large plastic in a plain brown box with the original shipping label, that had been sliced from the original box, reattached to the new packaging. They were clearly added just so that the box would weigh more. The green peppers arrived split open. Produce arrived on Friday at 4:30; by Tuesday at noon a lot was already rotten or sprouting. Thanks again. I believe "partners" refers to supermarkets, from whom they also purchase any overstock of fruits and veggies. The same exact produce from the second box except for somebody from the first box decided to come along...I received another two pounds of ginger. So without add ons, that's about $45-10.50.
